Transdesign haul + My thoughts on OPI

My Transdesign haul: OPI Shrek mini set, Color Club- Mrs. Robinson, Rebel Debutaunte, Chelsea Girl, Tangerine Scream, Electro Candy, Magic Attraction, Fashion Addict, Orly- Supernatural, China Glaze- Kiwi Coolada, Solar Power, Color Club- Warhol, China Glaze- Flip Flop Fantasy, Custom Kicks, OPI Dress to Empress, Color Club- Gossip Column (from Warhol to Gossip Column were for a friend), manicure bowl and brush, fiberglass wraps and gel resin, and Konad plate M55. I also picked up OPI pedicure minis in Smooth, Soften and White Tea Massage Lotion to try out.

I'm sure you have all heard about the big thing between OPI and e-tailers. If you haven't, OPI is suing (I was trying to find articles explaining but failed- if you have any please post in comments!). So while most e-tailers have already taken down their OPI section all together and Transdesign is liquidating I figured I would make a big OPI order before it was to late.

It turns out I really don't like OPI. I spent forever searching over the OPI section and looking for swatches but I ended up only purchasing the Shrek mini set and ordering a bunch of other things. I can't justify spending $5+ on a color that is most of the times not so special. I've had a weird grudge against OPI for a long time. It begins with the price- why do they deem themselves so special that they cost so much? I find their formula to not be as nice as a lot of companies, their brush until recently really sucked and their color selection (once again until recently) was 90% reds. Any color I want is LE and rare, it's annoying. When I was a cosmetology student we only used OPI and those brushes were such a pain and something about those bottles- the tops would get stuck so hard and then there was no grip to the handle...I could go on all day about this. I actually have quite a fair few of OPI colors but I NEVER use them. I'm talking 3 years + on these things.

Once they are gone from e-tailers I will no longer be purchasing OPI. It simply doesn't fit in my budget! I also can't pick up OPI anywhere local like I can most other brands- the store an hour away has it but no new collections!

I'm curious to know- what are your feelings on OPI? Love it, hate it? Let me know!

Hey I have some links on my blog to other blogs that have posted the legal papers and stuff... Transdesign did not have a contract with OPI to sell these polishes and they were apparently removing the serial numbers on the bottles by shaving the sides off a bit.. I found this with some of the bottles that I ordered from them. I ordered from TD loads too, they were my favourite nail e-tailer, now I'll just order from amazon.com, some good sellers there too. In Canada, an OPI bottle costs $10 a bottle at retail price, that's a lot.

I am curious as to wear these e-tailers were getting their OPI from. I have no problem with their suing, it is their right to and I totally understand. I just don't like how they charge $8-9 here in the US and I refuse to pay that much. I can't imagine being in some of these other countries where the cost is even more outrageous.

Thanks for the comment and the links!

I love their polishes and especially the brush but I can't afford to buy any more at $20 retail price (Australia). If I find any that I absolutely must have (unlikely) then I'll have to pick them up on evilbay. Am trying to boycott the polishes though as I despise the company for trying to force international polish buyers to pay ridiculously inflated prices!

They're £10 in the UK. Outrageous. I don't buy them. I can get BB Couture for $9 with great service from Kim at Overall Beauty and much more interesting shades and finishes. No OPI for me. And I don't miss them.

that's it it's DID i am placing my transdesign order
I reckon no matter how much we talk about it that is what we are all doing (moving our OPI want lists to the top of the tally and placing our transdesign orders if we can). Someone made a good suggestion, OPI should just start etailing from their website. They could run specials and promotions and us lemmings would jump all over it. I do agree with jaljen though. I placed my transdesign order because $5.29 now to get the OPI's I am wanting that may not be available in the future seemed like the thing to do so I would not have regret, however the list of BBs I want is over 20 colors long now and I am never ever ever disappointed in BBs so if the price were more than $8 why would I buy OPI when there are the fabulous wonderful BB colors at $9 and Kim's awesome customer service. Not to mention sometimes Kim runs crazy specials that help you get more of the colors you are wanting in one order without feeling guilty about breaking the bank.

Thanks for all the great responses guys! It is nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks they are overpriced!

@peripatetic33- you are right, they should start e-tailing. I don't understand why they don't. As I said, they are available to me so now they are cutting me off completely. What a stupid move!

I think I'm the only person who has never been impressed with OPI. They're fine, but I have no particular affection for their colors or formulas. In fact they usually chip on me a lot faster than other brands.

Interestingly, I've seen "OPI" polishes w/torn-off labels in *many* Bay Area drugstores. If I were a company large enough to inspire counterfeiting, I'd probably limit my sales as well.

Having always (for the 6 or 7 OPIs I own) paid about 7 bucks for them, this isn't really changing anything for me. I'll still buy more Zoya and CG than OPI anyway.

I use to hate OPI as well, they've grown on me lately but I honestly think that the only reason they have grown on me is that I'm lucky enough to have a nail supply store close to home where I can pick them up at cost if it wasn't for my dusty nail supply the only OPI I'd have would be my SOPI and the couple I've rec'd as gifts and bought on awesome clearance at ULTA. I think they are going to lose a lot love over this move because there are so many of us that can't/refuse to spend what they want on their polishes.

you are the first person i know of that has ever said anything about how the stupid handles get stuck to the bottle. I was like, seriously!?!? How does no one bitch about this on the daily. I totally agree with you on everything. I've never paid full price on an OPI and I don't think I ever will. their color selections are alright but there are other cheaper yet still good quality brands that are way way better

I was swatching all my OPI last night and I realized I never use ANY of them and when I tried to open half of them it was impossible. I had to whack the top lightly with a hammer to unlodge the stupid things.
