China Glaze Custom Kicks

I am so in love with this polish! I have quite a few teals but something about this is just lovely.

As I previously mentioned this is teal leaning towards blue with a little bit of golden shimmer in it. This color both went on and wore beautifully. The one complaint I have is that there was a lot of blue staining when I removed it! But I also don't use a base coat which would probably help.

Essie Punchy Pink

I'm loving this highlighter pink. Application was great- needed three coats to be opaque but went on nicely. Wear was good, no chips before I removed it a couple days later. I will surely be using this again soon. How lovely would a summer pedicure with this be?

I also finally shortened my nails so they are the same length and shaped them. I hate having to cut them down but it must be done!

China Glaze Something Sweet from Up and Away

Sugary cotton candy or strawberry milkshake pink. Swatches shown are 3 coats. Not really feeling this color personally. I always have difficulty wearing pinks though I own a ridiculous amount of them.

Konad- gray is China Glaze Recycle and the black is Wet n Wild.

OPI You're Such a Kabuki Queen + Orly Prisma Gloss Gold

This color photographs very red. It is a coral-pink with red tones to it but not as red as it is here. I tried and tried in different lighting and it just wouldn't look right. This is 2 coats of OPI You're Such a Kabuki Queen with 2 coats of Orly Prisma Gloss Gold.

I've read a lot of hate on the Prisma Gloss but I don't mind, it is a lighter dusting of glitter than you normally can find and it is a nice light touch instead of being in your face glitter. This wore really crappy. Maybe it is just me but OPI tends to chip really quick for me :/ Which is why I usually steer clear of them.

Matte Konad experiment

Just a quick post to show something I tried. I was curious if a matte coat would work out stamped over regular polish...not so well. I also tried a matte base with the same color stamped over it...also not so well. It worked but you can barely tell. I may try this again with a bolder Konad design at some point.

Essie Matte About You stamped over Sinful Deepest Ruby.

I think my dislike of this has a lot to do with my dislike of red in general. I feel like they make my nails looks sloppy and just eh...

Wet N' Wild Black with Essie Matte About You over it. Stamped with Wet N' Wild Black.

Excuse the mess but I removed this right after. Anyone else tried this before?

China Glaze Entourage w/ Custom Kicks konad

Click these bigger for better quality!

What I would call a manicure from HELL

Can you tell which is my favored hand? ;)

Entourage and Custom Kicks are from the China Glaze Kicks collection. Entourage was VERY disappointing. Not the color, but the application. What you see here is 4 coats- still not opaque- and it could have used another. If you look in the above picture at the right ring finger you can see an example of "pulling" which I had A LOT of with this color. (Pulling is what I call when you apply another coat and it pulls the coat before it off- leaving a bald spot). It also seemed to take forever and a day to dry. Which, when doing 4 coats is NOT fun! You may also notice some kitty fur embedded in this manicure caused by the taking forever to dry.

Entourage is however a nice lime green with silver shimmer while not being too in-your-face-neon. I love the finish on it but I don't think it is worth the effort.

Custom Kicks I cannot wait to use as a base. Beautiful medium teal with gorgeous gold shimmer. I have high hopes for you, Custom Kicks. Don't let me down! It worked wonderfully with the Konad.

And then the Konad...why do your all over plates have to be the same size as my nails? I love all over plates but how annoying. I had to stretch the zebra lines out by hand- not fun either.

China Glaze Peachy Keen

I finally (after battling with UPS) received my latest TransDesign order containing polishes from the new China Glaze Up and Away collection and I cannot wait to try them all! However, I'm not happy that my order was missing two polishes. CG 2030 and Millennium, ordered with Konading in mind. They will credit me back next time I order but I can't help but be disappointed- I want them NOW! Anyways, on to my first NOTD from the Up and Away collection: Peachy Keen.
I love simple cream colors and this collection is full of them. This color is lovely. I would call it a pastel orange more than peach. Creamy "creamsicle" orange. I have a love of orange polishes but they do not love me. Around my nails is too red to pull of orange but this one I will wear anyways. Swatches shown are two coats. I was afraid these would take 3 or 4 coats to go opaque but I'm happy to find they don't. Nothing else to really say about this color, application and wear was typical of China Glaze for me (I usually change colors before they chip).

Claire's Marine Blue

I must admit I am impressed. I picked this color up with another bogo half off (Love struck- foil hearts and glitter in clear) and I swatched the other and it was horrible. But this is lovely. Marine Blue is more of a teal I would say, the swatch is two coats. The first went on streaky and I was ready for disappointment but it pulled through on the second. This color is gorgeous. Application was alright after the first coat was down. Only complaint I have is this has a weird semi-matte finish and IMO requires a top coat.

Wet n wild Megalast

While making a quick stop at Kmart I found these beauties. I have yet to see these anywhere else.

Tropicalia and Club Havana

Swatches with 2 coats. Tropicalia and Club Havana

Formula is pretty standard for Wet n Wild, brush is stiff but that is my only complaint. Have yet to wear these on their own so no full review. They only set me back $1.99 each so I'm pretty pleased with them. They are fantastic neon colors. Tropicalia is a pinky coral and Club Havana is just straight neon orange.

Look recently done with both Megalast colors over Claire's Marine Blue (swatch coming soon).

Jumping on the blog wagon

Figure I might as well share my swatches and nail art with everyone out there in the blogging-world :)

So, I will begin with a review of one of the new Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes. I purchased Peachy Keen. I originally scoffed at the price tag of $6.50 for a rather commonly colored drug store brand polish and I'm not convinced it is worth that still...

I did four coats of Peachy Keen and it still is not opaque. I then did a coat of China Glaze Matte Magic over it. The formula is pretty standard, a little runny and nothing special. The first two coats were streaky and horrible looking so this needed at least three coats.. The brush is similar to the Insta Dry brush but a little wider and thicker it also feels cheaper than the Insta Dry brush- stiffer.

Complete Salon Manicure brush next to Insta- Dry brush.

The wear was bad- this chipped the next day pretty easily but that could also be due to the matte top coat. Based on this polish I don't see myself shelling the $6.50 out for another bottle of this formula. The colors are all nothing special so there isn't much reason to return to this line. The color is pretty but not great. In store I expected a more beige tone but it is a true light pink with no shimmer. It would be a good french manicure color if it weren't so streaky.

Turquoise

Using Manic Panic's Atomic Turquoise. I've heard a lot of bad about Manic Panic but my first experience was a positive one and I've discovered my hair works very well with their dye.

Look how funky it faded! Perfect for 4th of July :)

Purple

Using N'Rage Purple Plum. This color did not come out as expected! The color swatch showed a medium vibrant purple but it looked more like dark navy blue! These photos are all after my attempts to wash it out of my hair: something like washing my hair 16 times with every trick google could give me.

It faded to the color I was expecting!

Pink

My first "funky" color was of course pink.

I began with a bottle of Special Effects Cupcake Pink and a haircut but due to not being able to buy Special Effects locally I switched to N'Rage Bubble Gum Pink and had much better results.

About Me

My name is Megan, I'm a Sagittarius and really do enjoy long walks on the beach.

Nail polish, cosmetics and beauty products in general have long since been a love of mine. My mother tells me I've been painting my own nails (better than she could) and collecting since I was 2. I proudly kept my first "kit" in a bright yellow Rainbow Brite lunch box. One of my youngest memories is that of a family friend teaching me how to blot my lipstick so it looked "good".

I attended a Cosmetology program when I was 18 and graduated with the highest possible grade point but I decided against getting my license. As much as I love the beauty industry I discovered that working in it was not for me, at least in that form. Not to mention, I can't cut or style hair to save my life!

I decided to start this blog to help me fill my time after being laid off from my job as a receptionist. Posting my FOTD's and polish online had already been a habit of mine through MUA and Livejournal and I love to write, so why not? Dainty Darling Digits began as a nail polish blog but I suppose it's only natural that a little bit of everything beauty has squeezed in.
