Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick swatches x2

I really love the finish and color on these but I hate the formula. Like a lot of long wear products these feel super drying and uncomfortably "tight" on my lips. And holy mother of God, don't like your lips too much with this product on because it is the nastiest tasting lip product I can think of.

Revlon Colorstay Aqua review

Have you ever bought a product that you completely and totally regret buying within hours of purchasing?

First off, here is what they claim:
  • Instant hydration with coconut water
  • Luminous look that lasts all day.
  • Shine-free formula made with water, not oil
  • SPF 13

  • On a recent trek to drug store land I spotted a new display of Revlon Colorstay Aqua. I instantly knew this was a drug store version of MAC Magically Cool Liquid Powder which I had wanted to try. I picked this up and then eagerly went home to try it.

After I ran around showing everyone my magic little foundation that was wet and cool when applied but somehow looks and acts like a powder, I eagerly tried it out. And that is when disappointment set in.

First I discovered that my normal mineral foundation brush just doesn't work with the consitency of this product, I'm sure caused by Aqua texture. No biggie really, it comes with it's own little brush built in to the top. But using the tiny brush that comes with it means it takes a bit longer than usual to apply. A dab of this stuff doesn't go very far, I found myself dipping into it several times before I could apply it to my entire face.

And then there is the shimmer. Why oh why must everything now contain shimmer and not plainly state it on the packaging. Seriously, just smack a bright red warning label on it that says: I WILL TURN YOUR FACE INTO A DISCO BALL! I know that a little bit of shimmer can be diffusing but I'm sick of being glitter-bombed. If it was a PhotoReady product I would have expected it. I guess the word Luminous should set me off, but I don't remember seeing it on the advert in store.

Now, I should mention that my skin is extremely dry. No matter how much moisturizer I put on and specialty products I use nothing seems to help. They advertise the Aqua foundation as being moisturizer with coconut water. Well, it is wet feeling when you apply it. After that though, this foundation feels sets and a little while later my face feels noticeably dry and tight. It almost feels like I'm wearing a mask- something I've never had happen with any foundation.

And then the last straw- this noticeably makes my pores look larger, specifically next to my nose. Now, I don't know about you guys? But that isn't a thing I look for in a foundation.

The one thing I will say is that the color was spot on.
You can enlarge this for scary glitter-pores if you'd like.

So yeah, I don't recommend this foundation.

New Year Nails, Makeup & Hair

I loved these nails so much! I used Revlon Top Speed Black Star as the base- 2 coats. It's a beautiful pearly soft black. I started my glitter gradiant with Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond. It's silver holo glitter top coat that is prettier to me in the bottle than on the nails. After that I layered on Orly Prisma Gloss Gold which is an ultra fine gold holo glitter top coat and is totally gorgeous! After that I still needed a little bit more so on the tips I added Color Club Magic Attraction which is a gorgeous glitter- silver but has a hint of pink. If you like glitter and don't own it you should!

New Year's Eve I decided I was over being a "red" head and ended up with this...
You can still see the highlights of red but I love it! We used Manic Panic Ultraviolet over faded out N'Rage Crimson Red. I like that it came out looking highlighted which wasn't intentional. And not having red hair meant I could wear my new MAC Lickable lipstick (Christmas gift from one of my awesome ladies!) and I based New Year's makeup around that and of course I had to get extra glammed up! We decided to not go out but went to a party which ended up being ridiculous fun (until the next day ;)) and the best New Years I've had yet.

    Products Used:
    MAC Painterly Paint Pot
MAC Bare Study Paint Pot (to highlight)
    Wet n Wild Brulee eyeshadow
    MAC Classic Cream liquid liner
Maybelline liquid liner (I can never remember the name)
    Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara
Falsies from Forever 21 (they had purple strands in them but it wouldn't capture on camera)
    Milani Brow Kit
    Tarte Clean Slate face primer
    Almay 16 hour foundation
    Mary Kay Mineral powder foundation
    MAC Sweetness blush
Revlon Age Defying Face Illuminator in Bare Light (to highlight face)
    MAC Lickable lipstick

I also curled my hair, which doesnt happen too often because it takes me forever and a day. I used Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray and my curls could still move and even after partying like a lush and waking up the next morning my curls were still in place. Pretty darn impressive if you ask me.

And just because, here is my friend Kate (who dyed my hair:)) and me at midnight!
Here is to 2011, and to my lovely readers <3>

    Revlon Royal

Ick, I really hate when you have a beautiful jelly polish on and you go to capture it and you get this...
Yeah, ew. In real life there is a little VNL, Royal is a jelly of course. But the photos of this polish (at least mine, I think my dslr flash is too blame) come out looking uneven and just gross. I tried to capture it in the sunlight but it did not want to work with me!

Royal is part of the new Top Speed display. I have to admit when I first saw the admittedly large and colorful display I shrugged it off. While there is a big color selection they all seem to be something we've seen before. I picked up a few other colors and I'll be trying those out in the next couple of weeks.

Does it dry faster than standard Revlon polish? Yes, but to me that isn't saying much! I find Revlon polish usually takes forever and a day to dry. I still need to put a coat of Seche on to make sure to not ruin my still wet nails.

To try and combat the splotchy appearance I added a third coat...

...a little better. And I managed to screw my mani up by sliding my finger over my still wet index finger, which proves this isn't the fastest drying polish even if it is called Top Speed.

Halloween with Revlon Fire & Ice collection swatches

"Are you made for Fire & Ice? For over 75 years, Revlon has brought the most beautiful colors in the world to the most beautiful women in the world. In 1952, Revlon launched its iconic color collection Fire & Ice™,with matching lips and fingertips in a bold, fiery red. This fall, Revlon brings back its Fire & Ice™ collection for today’s woman – who is as bold, confident, and glamorous as ever."

Oh, my love of all things vintage. I squealed when I spotted the display for Fire & Ice, I knew exactly what it was and quickly snatched up my choices. I picked up the signature lipstick, Fire & Ice along with Siren along with its polish partner and Demure polish. There are 4 lipsticks with matching polish in the collection.

Before I begin on the swatches and babbling, when I told my mother about this collection she said my grandmother wore Siren as her "go-to" lipstick. My mother already says I'm exactly like my grandmother and now I can look even more like her.

Fire & Ice is the perfect red lipstick, it's that classic pinup red. I may already have similar in my collection but I love the Super Lustrous lipstick formula and the slightly vintage take on the packaging (logo via 1952- there is also a nicer silver tube but I haven't spotted it in stores). Demure polish (3 coats) is a pretty dusky rose- if there is a pink to compete against those rich fall colors this may just be it.

Siren is a very orange- red and I feel it might be a little too yellow for my skintone. While it packs a punch it seems a little more sheer. Matching Siren nailpolish (2 coats) is the same orange- red and I love the matching nails and lips.

My one complaint about my purchases is one I have had before with Revlon polish- slow dry times. I recommend waiting for each coat to dry completely before applying another.

And while we're on the subject of Fire & Ice, last night I went trick-or-treating with the fam and instead of putting my Flapper costume back on I decided to go with a quicker "costume" and went pin-up(ish at least). And I used my Fire & Ice to complete the look!

For more information or to view the great remake of the original ad, check out Revlon.com and let me know what you think! Did you pick anything up from this collection or are you planning to? Do you like the idea of re-releasing original collections?

    Peacock inspired FOTD

I wish my stupid eyebrows would decide what they are doing instead of hanging halfway between blonde and dark brown :/

    Products used:
    Mac Painterly Paint Pot (base)
Revlon Vintage Lace matte shadow (highlight)
Fyrinnae Digital Faerie (inner corner of lid)
    Fyrinnae Looking Glass (middle lid)
    Fyrinnae 1.22 Gigawatts (outer lid)
    Fyrinnae Shingami (crease)
Mac Bright Fuschia pigment (above crease)
    UD Honey (inner corner)
Cover Girl Lash Blast Length mascara

And honestly no clue at all on the rest of the face!

    Revlon Colorstay Lipglaze swatches x3

I don't really have much to say on these, they are alright but nothing I would purchase again. They aren't overly slick or sticky, just blah. (and truthfully I hated the color of Overtime Wine).

It claims to last up to 8 hours but it's a gloss, if you eat/drink/kiss/talk a lot or like me rub your lips together every 2 seconds it won't last anywhere near that long.

Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain in Crave & Frenzy

I'm always looking for a good lipstain at the drugstore and up until now I could never find anything good (*hint-hint* I have a review for a certain Maybelline product coming up soon). So the other day I came across these Revlon Just Bitten lipstains. The writing on these seems to be hinting at Twilight, as well as the Just Bitten name. I'm not a Twilight fan but I these are cute. Here is what it looks like (and I'm "stealing" a stock photo for this because I lost my own):
On one end it has a lip balm which really sets it apart from most others that I've tried. The lip balm is really nice and soft too, when I'm really in need of a balm and don't have anything else on hand I'll use it. On the other end there is obviously the pen like lipstain. The other few that I have tried have applied kind of streaky and if my lips are dry it clings to the dry skin and looks disgusting.

    On to the swatches:

I'm in LOVE. These are such beautiful shades of red and with the balm- holy crap gorgeous! And one thing I really love is that these don't flake or rub off onto the lipbalm when I apply it like usual and yet these remove way easier than others.

These come in about 10 shades (depends on where you look) and I found mine at Rite Aid/CVS. They sell for about $8.99.

Revlon Soft Nude & Nude Attitude

Nude Attitude is supposed to be a matte lipstick. So is it just me or is this incredibly dewy for a matte? I really don't mind though! I really like this nude lipstick, it is a little bit peachy and the coverage is good enough to cover my pigmented lips. If you are looking for a drug store nude lip I would go for this one.

Revlon Colorburst in Soft Nude is apparently not my color! This is a very full-coverage nude and it applies nicely but I think is a little too yellow brown for me. Although this is not a matte color it appears more as one than Nude Attitude which is marketed as matte. I also find this one less comfortable to wear.

    Revlon Beyond Natural smoothing primer

A couple months ago I had a sample of Tarte's Clean Slate. I loved it. I cannot afford the $30 price tag. I weep. I go in search of a drug store primer. I am looking for a primer that: moisturizes, controls oil and helps smooth fine lines.

The first one I come across is Revlon Beyond Natural smoothing primer. This is what it claims:
Evens skin for a smooth, virtually poreless appearance and creates a smooth base for lasting foundation.

-Lightweight, gel-like formula fills in pores and lines
-Clean, fresh fragrance refreshes your senses.

Really, they don't claim a lot. The tube doesn't have any ingredients listed, which is a little peeve of mine. After looking (and I will mention I couldn't find them on Revlon's site) it seems to have a fair bit of fruity extracts in it:
Trisiloxane, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, PEG/PPG 19/19 Dimethicone, Aqua (Water, Eau), Glycerin, Dimethicone/Silsesquioxane Copolymer, Alcohol Denatured, Citrullus Vulgaris (Watermelon) Fruit Extract (Watermelon), Pyrus Malus Fruit Extract (Apple), Persea Gratissima Fruit Extract (Avocado), Euterpe Oleracea (Acai Berry) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ammonium Polyacrylatedimethyl Taurate, Saccharomyces Zinc Ferment, Saccharomyces Copper Ferment, Saccharomyces Iron Ferment, Saccharomyces Silicone.
    Now for it's two claims:
Lightweight gel like formula, fills pores and lines: alright, it is a lightweight gel but as for filling lines and such, it does nothing. I don't notice any difference in the appearance of my skin when I apply this. None. I can feel a very slight difference. My skin is a very slight bit greasy, not smooth, but that is about it. After a little while (I usually apply at the start of my makeup to let it set in for a few minutes) it doesn't really feel like anything.

Clean fresh fragrance: why is this a plus point? I know a lot of things we use on our faces have fragrance but as a selling point? And it smells floral, not pleasant to me.

Does it work? I've used this a couple of times and it didn't seem to help my foundation last any longer or control oil. As I already mentioned, it doesn't smooth very well. My foundation doesn't go on any nicer. So really, I have to say no. The one plus to this is it helps my dry skin out a little but this can be better accomplished with a moisturizer.
This sells at most drug stores and walmart, walmart.com and walgreens.com for $10-12.
    Conclusion, skip it.

Revlon Super Lustrous in Fuchsia Fusion

Tonight I have a swatch for you of Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Fuchsia Fusion. As far as drugstore lipsticks go Revlon seems to be my personal favorite. They have the best color selection, wear well and generally are all around pleasing. I have quite a few of these I will be sharing with you over the next few weeks so I hope you enjoy!

Fuchsia Fusion is a pearl finish hot pink that leans towards red.
And because I thought they may be a close match here it is compared to MAC Girl About Town...totally not the same but maybe cousins? The finish is the same just one is red-pink and one is pink-pink.

Girliest nails ever + NYC blushable creme sticks review

Woot- girly nails! Here is what I used:
Revlon Gum Drop 5 coats, base
Color Club Take Me To Your Chateau, blue tips
Franken "Peaches n' Cream", peach tips
Sally Hansen Pronto Pink, bows stamped on blue
Sally Hansen Whirlwind White, polka dots
Color Club Holo glitter nail art, glitter line
Konad plates in M79 (dots), M59 (bows)
    Craft jewels
Before konading the bows on the tips :)
Quick review for NYC blushable creme sticks.
    Pink flash and Wild Berry
One swipe of Pink Flash and Wild Berry blended in slightly.

I really like these! I was expecting absolutely no color payoff but these are really strongly pigmented. They can be blended much more than the above swatches. I personally love cream blush because it blends better and looks more "natural". I will be looking out for more shades in this line!

Revlon Grape Ice & Gumdrop scented polish + recycling nailpolish?

I have a question for all of you. I really want to do a big giveaway and as I was going through my polish collection the other day I was thinking. I have a literal ton of polishes I've only swatched or worn once that I will never touch again. I'm pretty big into reducing my footprint on the planet and taking steps to live green so I ask you: How would you feel about a giveaway featuring polishes that aren't brand spanking new? Like I said, these have all only been worn once or swatched by me and they are some great polishes that just aren't getting enough love (including the Revlons swatched in this post). Tell me your thoughts in the comments please :)

Here are swatches of the two Revlon scented polishes I picked up. They both had really pretty colors- in fact I LOVE the color of Gum Drop. I compared it to all my light purples and it came close to none of them. The scents aren't really my thing though, I recall having scented polish when I was younger and loving it but ick, no more for me! These are five coats each (could probably get away with 4 or less if you aren't impatient like me :P) and a top coat of Poshe.

Gumdrop, which has a sweet general scent to it:

Grape Ice, smells like grape but not real grape. Like grape scented items (remember scented stickers? Yeah, that grape):
